I project-managed the rebranding of American soccer at one of the most pivotal moments in the league's history. The work required localizing the individual identity of each club ensuring all work tied back to adidas’s global, cohesive product platform and maintained a recognizable design language that scales across leagues and fan bases.
David Beckham's Iconic Uniforms
The LA Galaxy Beckham jersey is one of the most recognizable pieces of sports apparel in American soccer history. I developed this jersey with the same attention to detail that the profile of the player demanded. The construction combined bonding, sublimation, and heat transfer techniques to integrate graphics and sponsor marks without compromising what the garment needed to deliver on the pitch. Function and statement were the same brief.
Heritage and Sustainability: The Portland Timbers THIRD Kit
The Timbers third kit asked us to honor a club's deep connection to the Pacific Northwest while pushing into new territory on sustainability. In 2011, locally made, recycled product at this performance level was genuinely rare. I led the creation to make it real, not just a story. The kit embodied Portland's soccer legacy and the club's commitment to the community it plays for.
Chicago Fire: Solving the Brief Nobody Thought Could MEET MARGIN
This jersey required solving a genuine performance problem. Appropriate compression placement using bonded seam construction with strategically placed, proprietary, TPU hadn't been done before. The TPU TECHFIT jersey enhances muscle power, increases vertical leap, boosts sprint speed, and improves endurance, posture, and oxygen intake, allowing players to reach their highest potential.
Through deep collaboration and relentless desire to go deep in problem solving ,we were able to create the most complicated performance jersey using the highest risk colors ever created, providing incredible depth of discovery and performance for the team’s new identity on field.
Beyond the Match Jersey
Our MLS projects extended well beyond match uniforms. Sideline gear, training wear, outerwear, scarves, graphic tees, Women’s fan wear. Each category had its own performance requirements, its own consumer, and its own aesthetic language. I held all of it simultaneously, ensuring the full range felt cohesive while each product did its specific job.
Houston Dynamo: Reverse Engineering the Impossible Brief
The Houston Dynamo starburst sublimation pattern was a brief the industry said couldn't be costed. Consistent placement across a pattern that complex, at a marker efficiency that made it commercially viable, required reverse engineering the production process from the finished product back to the cut. We found the solution without compromising the design.
What We Built Together
Soccer in America was building something during these years and I was part of the product team that built with it. The league expanded dramatically, new teams launched and filled stadiums in cities where there had never been a market for the sport before, and a fan base that barely existed a decade earlier became one of the fastest growing in American sports.
Product that gave clubs genuine identity and fans something to belong to was part of what made that growth possible. Product rooted in genuine understanding of who a club is creates loyalty that purely commercial product never can.
