Nike Leak Protection : Period
Recognizing significant barriers
Nike Leak Protection: Period answered a question the industry had ignored for too long. I led its commercialization through the Nike Innovation Direct team, working across innovation and inline to bring a first-of-its-kind solution to athletes without compromising the performance standards the brand is known for. This work earned Nike's Maxim Award for accelerated innovation and became a proof of concept for what the pipeline could do when it moved with real urgency.
THE QUESTION THE INDUSTRY HAD IGNORED
The product had to be invisible to the athlete. Not just technically effective but undetectable in wear, indistinguishable from the performance product athletes already trusted. I worked with the innovation and apparel lab teams through multiple rounds of development to get there, pushing until the solution was both scientifically sound and commercially scalable.
INNOVATIVE ENGINEERING AND ACCELERATED DEVELOPMENT
The brief was simple and the execution was not. We needed a solution that worked across the full range of athletic movement, in every condition, without changing the hand feel or performance of the garment it lived in. Getting there required holding the technical and the commercial standards simultaneously and refusing to compromise either.
Speed to market is only meaningful if the product is right when it arrives. I held both of those things simultaneously, driving urgency across teams with very different rhythms while protecting the rigor the innovation required. The result was a 26-week improvement in speed to market without a single compromise on what the product needed to be.
MAKING IT ACCESSIbLE
The decision to make this product accessible across the full Nike assortment rather than positioning it as a premium innovation was deliberate. Athletes at every level deserved access to it. Getting it into the right franchises at the right price points with the right retail presentation was as important as getting the technology right, and I drove that commercialization strategy end to end.
Redefining Sports Apparel
This project reinforced something I believe about the work at its best. The best product solves something real. Not a trend. Not a marketing moment. Something that changes what an athlete believes is possible. Nike Leak Protection: Period did that. It is the standard I bring to every role.
